Zheya Gai, Ph.D.

Professor of Political Science and International Studies

Degrees: Ph.D. University of Pittsburgh; M.A. and B.A. Fudan University

Dr. Zheya Gai is a professor of Political Science and International Studies. She teaches courses in international relations and comparative politics with an area emphasis on China and East Asia. She also teaches a course in empirical research methods. Dr. Gai’s research interests include China’s role in the world economy and global governance, China and emerging Asia, and the politics of China trade in the United States. Her most recent research involving a number of issues on the broad topic of China’s rise was published in a co-authored book titled China’s Peaceful Rise: Perceptions, Policy, and Misperceptions by Manchester University Press in 2016. Dr. Gai served on the ASIANetwork Board of Directors 2012-15 and as its chair in 2014-15. She is currently the Director of the ASIANetwork-Freeman Student-Faculty Fellows program.
